On September 25, the Department of Earth Sciences of Oxford University joined in International University Consortium in Earth Science (IUCES), and the Signing Ceremony was hold at China University of Geosciences (CUG),wuhan. Professor Gideon Henderson, head of Earth Sciences Department of Oxford, Xulong Lai, vice president of CUG, and related department head from College of Earth Sciences, College of Environmental Science, International Cooperation Office and Propaganda Department attended it.
IUCES was initiated by CUG in December 2012, and now 12 world elite universities have joined in it . Oxford will inject fresh vigor into IUCES, and make it more powerful.
CUG has undertaken exchange and cooperation with the Department of Earth Sciences of Oxford University since 2003. The two sides have developed cooperation research on the evolution of East Asian monsoon, produced important results and published articles on the important geo periodicals such as “Nature Geoscience” and “Earth and Planetary Science Letters”. During the visit, Gideon Henderson and his delegation were met by Yanxin Wang, President of CUG, visited the educational facilities and academic research of State Key Laboratory and held symposium for teachers and students.
